The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) entrance exam is a national-level test conducted to select candidates for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fashion design, technology, and management. 

The National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency.

Undergraduate Programmes Offered:

Bachelor’s Programme (B. Design)- 4 years

Bachelors of Fashion Technology (B.F. Tech)- 4 years

Timeline for NIFT 2025:

  1. Application Start Date: 22 November 2024
  2. Application Deadline: 06 January 2025
  3. Application submission with Late Fees (Rs 5000): 09 January 2025
  4. Admit Card Release: About two weeks before the exam date
  5. Entrance Exam Date: 09 February 2025
  6. Result Declaration: Around April/May
  7. Counselling and Admission: Begins in June/July

Eligibility Criteria:

Any candidate who fulfils the prescribed age and educational qualification criteria for the concerned programme can apply.

1. Qualifying Age

Maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st August of the year of admission. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

2. Educational Qualification

• Passed the plus 2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi/Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

                                              or

• A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

                                              or

• Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities are equivalent to a 10+2 system.

                                             or

• General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB)

Application Fees

The application fee has to be paid through an online payment gateway on the admission’s website only. Students can apply online on https://exams.nta.ac.in/NIFT/

Exam pattern:

General Ability Test (GAT): Assesses general knowledge, quantitative ability, and analytical ability.

Creative Ability Test (CAT): Evaluates the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate.

Situation Test: Shortlisted B.Des. candidates need to take this hands-on test that evaluates their skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.

Syllabus:

  • General Ability Test (GAT): Includes sections on English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability, and General Knowledge & Current Affairs.
  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): Focuses on evaluating creativity, visualization skills, and drawing ability. Candidates are typically required to complete design-related tasks and sketches.

Exam Centres

The exam is held across 82 cities in India. The candidate must give four choices for the centres for the entrance examination in order of preference. Examination centre will be allotted on a first come first served basis.

Counselling Process

  1. Registration: Register on the NTA official website with your form number, date of birth, and password.
  2. Campus Choice: Select your preferred campus from the 19 NIFT campuses during registration.
  3. Download Call Letter: After registration, receive a call letter via SMS and email with details on required documents and the Nodal Officer.
  4. Counselling: Attend the counselling session at your chosen campus for document verification and seat allocation.
